Because they're so quick and satisfying. Also because I needed a baby gift. So, yeah.
I really like the way this turned out. It's my own design, which is not unusual for me, but this time I actually drew it out on paper and calculated how big each piece needed to be BEFORE I cut anything. It was so much pre-planning, I almost couldn't handle it. Turns out, though, that planning and measuring leads to a quilt that looks like the picture in your head and makes your seam ripper wonder where you've gone. All good things.
I used Kona solids for this one. It's my first all-solids quilt. Unless you count the binding. That's not solid. Free-motion quilting in the colored parts- sort of like a rectangle/robot thing- and (ahem) sort of terrible straight-line quilting in the negative space. I don't know why I cannot quilt a straight line. I can sew a straight line when piecing... why can I not when quilting? I clearly need more practice. More baby quilts!
I'm about halfway done writing the pattern for this quilt. I figured, why not. I took notes. I measured correctly. Might as well make my foray into quilt-pattern writing. I recently discovered Craftsy, which seems like a great place to try to sell quilt patterns, along with Etsy, of course. I'm excited. One step closer to becoming a famous designer! At least, that's what I'm telling myself.
That looks really nice. I'm always designing things in my head and winging it to see what I come up with.
